In two very special Junior School assemblies held last week, our Semester 1 Student Representative Council members were presented with their Leadership badges. This group of boys will work together on focussed service projects with the guidance of Miss Andonas in coming months. Some of the representatives have already been involved by raising over $1300 for the Anglican Mission, helping with delivering pancakes to classrooms on Shrove Tuesday.
Service is one of our key values at St Peter’s College. It points our students towards an understanding that the world is a community and we should seek to serve the needs of others. Seeing Ten Keys to Happier Living outlined in Richard Layard’s Can We Be Happier? Evidence and Ethics, it is clear that service is important for our students. Doing things for others, connecting with people and being part of something bigger than oneself, all promote happiness, for ourselves and for others.
I wish the SRC a successful semester of service action and hope that their acts continue beyond their tenure as students. May they also realise that the benefits of service go beyond the amount of money raised after a particular event.
Please remember to be in touch with any questions or feedback.
Have a lovely long weekend.
