It is always wonderful to celebrate our exceptional community of learning at Junior School assemblies. Last week we saw Cross Country age group winners presented with their medals and listened to the Preparatory Strings Ensemble in their 2022 debut performance. We congratulated our Chess and Debating Captains on their appointments to their roles and heard SRC representatives talk about their latest service project, Backpacks 4 SA Kids.

These aren’t, however, the only achievements our community can celebrate. All our students have something to be proud of every day of every week of every month…. and together we can help our children hunt the good stuff in their days.

Whether it was using a fabulous WOW word in his writing or finishing a book that had more pages in it than any other book he had ever read before or simply completing the Cross Country race, regardless of placing, our children have much to be proud of.

You might have seen the What Went Well section in the online diary. It’s a great place for our students to record and reflect on the good things they do and are involved in. Research shows that reflecting on the good things in each day and their causes, has a positive influence on happiness and wellbeing (Seligman et al, 2005).

Many of our students are already filling out this section of the diary during Wellbeing lessons or form periods. I encourage more of our students to complete this section in their diary as regularly as possible. This habit has the potential to promote your child’s wellbeing, and an extra opportunity to open positive discussion with your child about their life outside of the family home.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
