It has been a tremendously eventful end to Term 3 and I am extremely grateful to the Junior School staff who have facilitated another exceptional term of learning for our students.
Congratulations to our Heads of House and the students in Years 3 to 6 who participated in last week’s House Singing Competition. Inspired by Musical Theatre, Alliston Jones House performed the theme tune from Fame, Brookes House sang I Just Can’t Wait to Be King, Clayton Dyer House delivered We Go Together from Grease, and the winning house, Stokes Ware House, brought the house down with their rendition of Hard Knock Life from Annie. Watching the four choirs, each with over 100 students, perform at this event is a wonderful reminder of the power of boys’ education and how it leverages boys participation in the arts. Events like these highlight our holistic approach to education. Giving students a platform to explore their strengths beyond academics or the sporting field, gives them an opportunity to grow in creative and collaborative environments.
On Tuesday, the Years 3 to 6 students enjoyed marching behind the Senior School Intercol Band members, accompanied by a uplifting drum line. It was great to see students participating in a range of novelty and athletics events over the course of the Years 3 to 6 Sports Day, culminating in a series of House relays. I look forward to our Sports Captain announcing the results of the day in our Term 4, Week 1 Assembly.
The Annual Years 1 and 2 concert, held on Wednesday afternoon and evening, was an absolute privilege to watch. The Songs of Discovery themed show was outstanding. Congratulations to all staff involved in the production, and in particular to Ms Katey Carey for her carefully curated program and conducting over 120 boys to perform confidently, cohesively and with joy!
Year 3 students have just spent their first two nights at Finniss, St Peter’s College’s outdoor education campus. Parents can be incredibly proud of their son’s participation in this initial camping venture, which serves as an important stepping stone in developing skills that will eventually culminate in the 21-day journey to the Flinders Ranges in Year 10. It was great to join the boys for dinner on Thursday night to hear all about their adventures! Thank you to the staff who attended the camp, spending time away from their own families and homes, to enable this invaluable experience for our students.
Staffing Updates
As we approach Term 4, I would like to thank Tom Noonan who has been covering Mara Cole’s Long Service Leave in Term 3. We have truly appreciated your contribution in Year 2 over the past months.
Tom will be moving into 1B in Term 4 as Lisa Barnes-Daysh begins her parental leave. We can’t wait to hear of Lisa’s baby’s arrival in the coming weeks.
Marcia McLachlan, fondly known to most as Madame, is taking Long Service Leave in Term 4. We will be welcoming Alison McCall to SPSC to teach French to our Prep to Year 3 students for the remainder of the year.
We wish Marcia and Lisa all the best for their upcoming leave.
Term 4 Uniform
Please remember boys are to wear summer uniform in Term 4. Do insist your son polishes his own shoes ready for the start of term. When visiting the hairdresser, make sure no extreme difference in length, fades or lightning bolts are shaved into boys’ hair.
Have a safe and rejuvenating holiday ahead of what promises to be another exceptional term of learning.
Kindest regards
Jasmine Taylor
Head of Junior School
