National Reconciliation Week: More than a word. Reconciliation takes action.
Ahead of National Reconciliation Week (NRW), students in Years 3 to 6 gathered for a special outdoor Assembly on Girdlestone Oval last Friday. During the Assembly Uncle John performed a smoking ceremony and welcomed students and staff to the Kaurna Land on which St Peter’s College stands. In addition to the welcome, every student and staff member acknowledged the country that we learn on together, an action symbolic of our collective appreciation of Australian history prior to European settlement. Our Junior School Captains then raised the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags on new flag poles alongside our existing Australian flag. Reiterating the theme of NRW, More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, we sang Advance Australia fair, paying particular attention to the significance of the word ‘young’ having recently been changed to ‘one’, paying respect to our shared histories, cultures and achievements. Although NRW ends on 3 June, reconciliation is a continuous journey we are committed to continue at St Peter’s College.

Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day
It was absolutely delightful to welcome grandparents and special friends on campus on Thursday. The boys thoroughly enjoyed sharing their musical prowess during the assemblies as well as their classroom and learning with special invited guests. Thank you to our Junior School Friends of Saints committee and parent volunteers who helped with serving morning and afternoon tea.

COVID-19 Safety
The health and safety of our school community is of high priority. For this reason if your son is unwell we ask you to keep him home. Following SA Health advice, people experiencing any of the following symptoms, no matter how mild, should be tested for COVID-19 as soon as symptoms appear:

  • fever OR chills (with no alternative illness that explains these symptoms)
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • runny nose
  • shortness of breath
  • loss of taste and smell
  • diarrhoea and vomiting.

If your son receives a negative COVID-19 test result, he should not attend school until he is feeling well again. Thank you for your support with this matter.
