Welcome back to our returning families. I trust you all had the chance to rest and enjoy some quality family time over the summer break – and a special welcome to our new families. I look forward to seeing your son’s journey with us here at Saints over the next few years.
This week all Year 9 families were invited to the Welcome to Senior Years Evening. The Senior Years marks the final stages of the students’ journey through the School, and in the Senior Years we place a significant emphasis on the House system. After a brief welcome in Memorial Hall, families moved into House areas to hear from the Head of House and House leaders about the House and see first-hand the rooms used for Mentor time and House Meetings.
The vertical alignment, with groups consisting of Year 9s through to Year 12s, is a real strength for our Mentor system. Students remain with the same Mentor for four years, and our older students can offer advice and guidance to the younger students about their subjects, study habits and co-curricular endeavours. It is a lovely sight to see students wearing their House hats and ties through the year, signifying their affection for their House.
The Year 12s have started the year with enthusiasm, and I have been impressed by their maturity and respectful nature thus far. Year 12 is a wonderful year for our boys, where they will experience the highs and lows, pressure points and laughter of the roller coaster journey ahead. I hope the boys can express gratitude to their families for all the opportunities they have helped them embrace. It’s amazing how quickly the next nine months will fly.
Have a wonderful start to the 2020 academic year
