Following the bushfires earlier in the year I put all students on notice that when the time was right, I would call upon them to expend a small amount of their time and energy in assisting our local communities recover. The COVID-19 pandemic has prevented the School from arranging large groups travelling to undertake recovery work so we will have to be a little more patient. That said, during the mid-year holiday there is an opportunity for small groups of boys to assist one of our local wineries in Lobethal with manual labour as vines are cut and removed. Year 10 boys have been asked to register. For parents of boys in Year 10, please direct your son to this activity so that he might make the most of this valuable opportunity.
COVID-19 restrictions are continuing to ease and it is heartening to hear stories from parents who are now able to re-open their businesses or increase operations. As restrictions ease, we are looking to rescheduled events. Further information will be provided in due course but it is our goal to reinstate all events as long as we can do so safely and meet social distancing requirements. I thank parents for their cooperation with traffic at drop off and pick up, with no Junior School parents leaving the car park area and entering classrooms. This process is operating so smoothly across both the Senior School and Junior School that it will continue indefinitely. I remind Senior School parents that it is far more efficient to have your son wait for you at pick up, rather than you wait for your son.
Individual and small group sports training has been a tremendous success and students have enthusiastically embraced the new training programs. Indeed, many students have commented on the quality of the program and that they are fitter and more prepared for the season than ever before. A focus on individual athletic development is something we will continue to undertake as the foundation of every sports season; a positive development accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis. Larger group training has begun with sports adding contact training and trials into the routine as we approach the end of the term. The competitive winter sports season will officially commence from the first week of Term 3 and will run through until the end of Week 8. Detailed information about fixtures will be provided through Sports Zone when available.
