The last week has been particularly challenging for our community following the tragic loss of one of our Junior School parents. I am most grateful for the solidarity that both our staff and families have demonstrated as we all struggle to come to terms with these circumstances and seek to support each other. Your respect for their privacy has been greatly appreciated.

Yesterday we were privileged to welcome back Dr Richard Harris SC OAM (FLL ’81), dual recipient of Australian of the Year, as our 2019 Rex J Lipman Fellow. In partnership with the Australia Day Council, it was inspiring to hear him recount the Thai cave rescue in 2018 and the teamwork involved by people from across the world to bring those boys safely home. Throughout the day he met with students from across the School and spoke to them about following your passions in life, enjoying the outdoors, and being prepared to respond to adversity. He also talked at length about assessing risk and acting with integrity even in the face of extreme danger. His messages resonated with the broad liberal education we provide at Saints and many students have spoken to me about how inspired they felt.

The completion of our summer sports season has seen the achievement of many impressive results. St Peter’s College won the SAAS interschool swimming competition and the intercol on 736 points. In water polo we won both the SAAS final and the intercol 14 to 13 in an extra-time thriller. At the Head of the River, we placed 1st in the 1st VIII and 1st and 2nd in the 2nd VIII race while at the 1st VIII placed 7th at the National Championships in Sydney. Our accolades continued with a stunning win in the badminton intercol. The tennis was only just lost with a score of 7 – 5 and we also lost the four-day cricket intercol match by 244 runs. However the 1st XI won the Messenger Shield and SAAS final. Our cricketers are now playing in the state championships against Adelaide High School and we wish them the best of luck. Congratulations to everyone for their sporting efforts this term.

With the School holidays fast approaching, I wish you a happy Easter and a safe break. I look forward to seeing you all in Term 2.
