From Friday 5 May – Sunday 7 May our students participated in the 34th Generations in Jazz Festival in Mt Gambier – a national festival that is held annually. We’re incredibly proud of our talented music students. All ensembles performed brilliantly in their respective divisions, showcasing their hard work and dedication. The boys were also exceptional in supporting for their fellow peers at all SPSC performances, which created an incredible positive vibe throughout the event. And despite the wet, cold and muddy weather, everyone had a blast!

There were some significant achievements from the weekend which include:

  • Big Band 1: 3rd in Division 1 Stage Band Awards (ranks Big Band 1 as the 3rd best performing Big Band in the country)
  • *Superband Div 1
    • Johnny Turner (WDK), Lead Alto Sax (back-to-back) and winner of Future Finalist
    • Will White (HWK), Trumpet 4
    • Archie Young (MAC), Percussion
  • *Superband Div 4
    • Carbon Li, Vibraphone

*Superbands are essentially a “dreamteam” that is made of the best of the best within each division.

“Future finalists” are students who are identified as outstanding improvising soloists from Division 1. Not only was Johnny Turner identified as one of the eight future finalists, he also was the joint winner of this award, which is one of the highest individual accolades at the Generations in Jazz Festival. Congratulations Johnny.
