They might be gone from our wardrobes, but hundreds of SPSC Senior School short sleeve shirts will now receive new homes a world away from St Peter’s College.
Rather than discard the shirts which are no longer part of the school uniform, the Mission Guild Recycled Uniform Shop (RUS) has donated to Rotary Adelaide five huge boxes of carefully cleaned, folded and sized school shirts in excellent condition.
They will be sent to The Democratic Republic of Congo as part of Rotary Adelaide’s charity work supporting communities with access to education and basic services.
‘’We are thrilled to work with Rotary Adelaide. Together we have been able to extend the generosity of SPSC families who donated their uniforms to the RUS, ensuring that others also benefit from this giving. A bonus is that it has an environmental dividend too, reducing clothing waste,” says Kirsty Whiteman, Chair St Peter’s College Mission Guild.
The donation came about in a round-the-world kind of way. Rotary Adelaide used its global connections with the South Pacific to locate a need for the school shirts in Africa.
‘’This connection has been a great example of Rotary in Action. Through my volunteer work at South Pacific School Aid I was able to connect Pastor Valentine with your wonderful school to create a win/win situation. I’m sure the shirts will find grateful homes on the other side of the world. Thank you for reaching out to us rather than taking the easy way out,” says Jill Chapman, Rotary Adelaide’s Fundraising Manager.
