We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Norwood Foodland to help run our Hot Cross Bun Fundraiser again this year!
We are selling hot cross buns to raise funds for the Anglican Board of Mission (ABM). This year, the proceeds from this initiative will support the ABM’s Anglicans in Development group, who are working with the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea to provide more education and housing for people around the country.
Today, ABM works with both the Church and Anglicare Papua New Guinea (PNG) to support the building of sustainable communities. More than 38% of Papua New Guineans live below the poverty line (receiving less than US$1.90 per day.) There are also high levels of gender inequality, with PNG ranking 140th on the Gender Inequality Index among the 155 countries surveyed in 2014. Almost 40% of people over 15 are illiterate and only 10% of women and 12.5% of men have received some secondary education. The average number of years a child spends at school is 5.5 years for males and 4 years for females, mostly in primary school.
The current focus of the ABM partnership is on building capacity to serve rural and urban settlement communities in the areas of literacy and numeracy, social inclusion, safeguarding and disaster management. ABM also works with the Anglican Church of PNG as it equips itself to provide leadership in addressing social and economic challenges. They are also currently supporting work by Anglicare and ACPNG to address COVID-19, especially in schools and remote communities.
This is a bold project for the ABM, and they need our support to make this change happen. At St Peter’s College we are fortunate to have access to education; these communities in Papua New Guinea do not. By purchasing your Easter holiday hot cross buns through the School, we can provide support for this meaningful cause.
Hot cross buns can be purchased online through the Humantix link below and will be delivered throughout Week 10. Fruitless, fruit and chocolate hot cross buns are available for $6 for a packet of six buns, with all proceeds contributing towards this project.
Orders are now open and will close at 11.59 pm on Friday 31 March 2023.
