Since last year, Howard House has partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities to take part in the Meals from the Heart program, which provides families with nutritious meals and a much needed break from cooking.
On Thursday 27 March 2025, four boys from the Cox Mentor group went to Ronald McDonald House in North Adelaide. With the great support from Ms Firth and Ms Cox, we prepared dinner and dessert for around 50 people staying at the House. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who gave us a tour of the facility and explained the importance of our contribution.
The kitchen quickly filled with energy as we each took on different tasks. Jacky and Matthew worked on preparing a flavourful chicken curry, a vegetarian potato curry and a fresh tomato and onion salad, while Aaron and I worked on baking rich chocolate brownies.
When the meal was ready, we served the families, and seeing their smiles and hearing their words of appreciation was deeply moving.
Afterward, we had the opportunity to sit down and share a meal with some of the families. They welcomed us like we were part of their community. This experience truly showed us how a simple meal can provide comfort to those facing challenging times, and it inspired us to continue finding ways to give back.
