Tom Zhang (HWD 2001), father of Jayden in Year 7, gave a fascinating presentation to the Year 6 boys, showcasing the Booster K1 Humanoid Robot. Tom explained that the K1 has been developed primarily for the RoboCup Soccer Competition, among other applications.
The boys were captivated watching the robot rise from the floor in a way that defies the mechanics of the human body. Tom also demonstrated the K1’s impressive soccer skills before delighting the audience with its Michael Jackson dance moves.
It was also interesting to hear Tom’s perspective on the often-predicted “doom” narrative surrounding robots and AI. He expressed that, in his view, robots are being developed for overwhelmingly positive purposes — and that a robotic takeover of the universe remains firmly in the realm of science fiction!
