As the soccer season draws to a close, one remarkable Intercol connection has emerged.
Following this year’s Intercol victory, the 1st XI held its traditional post-match dinner, where a special photo was taken of fathers and sons who had all represented St Peter’s College in Intercol soccer matches.
Among them was the Demourtzidis family, and an extraordinary piece of Intercol history soon came to light. Peter E. Demourtzidis scored a hat-trick in this year’s 4–2 victory and, remarkably, his father also scored a hat-trick in an Intercol match during his time at the School.
Early research suggests they may be the only father and son to have achieved the feat in Intercol soccer, although the Archives team is still working to confirm the details and the year of the earlier hat-trick.
There is one more connection: both father and son wore the same jersey number, 23.
A wonderful piece of St Peter’s College sporting history, spanning two generations.
