Every year IPSHA (Independent Primary School Heads of Australia) hold a Poetry Recital Competition. The aim is to develop a love and appreciation of poetry, memory skills, self-confidence, clear speech and recital experience. Within our Junior School our Years 4 to 6 cohorts utilise this opportunity to focus on and learn some poetry. Students learn how to analyse, write and present poetry. They are challenged to learn a set poem and or a chosen poem. Bravery and courage were on display as they stood in front of their peers and judges to perform.
In the end a single student from each year level was chosen to represent St Peter’s College at the competition finals at Walford Anglican School for Girls on 3 June. Oliver Dang (Year 4), Timmy Xu (Year 5) and Henry Bendyk (Year 6) represented their year levels with distinction. Both strength and love were on display as they confidently shared their chosen and set poems. A special mention to Henry who came second in his Year 6 competition.
