The 1st XI Soccer team competed for the Joe Mullen Cup, contested since 2007, against Blackfriars Priory School on Wednesday 3 March.

The team started well, controlling possession, although finding it difficult to breakdown a resilient Blackfriars defence on a slow pitch. Blackfriars struck first through a counterattack to make it 1-0 going into the half-time break. SPSC started in the ascendency in the second period, with Bailey O’Neil scoring the equaliser with a fiercely hit free kick giving their keeper little chance.

SPSC continued to push for the winning goal, although the ball was not quite falling in the final third and the game went to extra time at 1-1. In extra time we pushed again with Blackfriars holding out well for penalties. All of our penalty takers calmly finished their spot kicks, and goalkeeper Oscar Page pulled off two excellent saves to win the game and retain the cup. Congratulations boys!
