The opening of our Junior School Art Exhibition ‘Under the Sea’, was celebrated at the beginning of Term 4, where sea creatures floated through the function space, creating the feeling of being under the ocean. Opened by our 2025 Junior School Art Captain Edward Harley, our exhibition was full of creative sea life in two and three-dimensional forms with multiple and mixed materials.
The boys in Prep created colourful turtles and starfish in clay with glazes in cool colours and created watery and sandy backgrounds, and our receptions created fish and coral sculptures, with glazes, creating movable effects with wire. Our Year 1 students explored flat clay sculptures with ocean backgrounds, and created Calder inspired kinetic wire sculptures, while the Year 2 boys had fun exploring character clay fish sculptures with coloured glazes. Our Year 3 students had a wonderful time exploring weaving, capturing the ocean with colours and effects of the waves crashing on the shore, and created hanging sea creature mobiles with clay, with our Year 4 students creating colourful fish soft sculptures in fabric, paper, cane and paint. Year 5 students explored fabric designs representing the ocean, embossed metal sea creatures, and sgraffito clay designs; and our Year 6 students exhibited their symmetrical clay fish sculptures with vibrant glazes, lino carved prints, and colourful watercolour designs.
All the boys were excited to show their creations, and it was wonderful to see so many people viewing our exhibition over the two weeks, immersing themselves under the sea.
