We are thrilled to announce that our Junior School students have brought home an impressive total of eight prizes from the 2024 Australian Voice Chinese Singing Competition. This achievement is a testament to their hard work, passion for Chinese culture, and dedication to excellence. On Saturday, 2 November, more than 40 boys from our Junior School gathered at Elder Hall, University of Adelaide, for the 2024 Australian Voice Chinese Singing Competition Awards Ceremony.

This annual event celebrates and showcases students’ passion for the Chinese language and culture. Our Junior School has proudly participated in this competition since its inception three years ago. This year, Mrs Jasmine Taylor attended as a VIP and had the honour of presenting the second-place awards. She was incredibly proud of all the boys’ performances. Mrs Shelby Baker served as one of the event’s hosts. Although the South Australian Premier, Peter Malinauskas, was unable to attend, he sent a special video message to congratulate all the participants and winners.

Seven Year 5 and Year 6 boys performed the song 我的纸飞机 (My Paper Airplane), reflecting on the beauty of childhood memories and the importance of cherishing time. Their performance earned them 2nd place, marking our best result so far in the competition. Nine Chinese native-speaking students opened the event by singing the Australian and Chinese National Anthems in both English and Chinese. They also performed 上春山 (Climbing the Spring Mountain) with a delightful fan dance, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.

Additionally, three Year 5 boys sang the well-known Chinese song 七色光 (Seven-Coloured Light), which brought back nostalgic memories for the Chinese parents in the audience. Meanwhile, twelve boys from Year 1 and Year 2 performed 勇气大爆发 (Courage Bursts Out) and 我就是一只可爱的大熊猫 (I Am a Lovely Panda), captivating the audience with their singing and dancing.
