The 2024 Next Generation Junior Squash Tournament, presented by ‘Nomination Italy’ was held last Sunday 28 July, at Next Generation Memorial Drive. This competition was open to any squash player under the age of 19 in SA, and accepted players were split into five divisions. Each player had three matches, with the first two in a round robin and the final for deciding overall placings.

Five SPSC students, ranging from Years 6 to 12, competed in this competition, and the event was hosted by our Firsts squash coach Lucas Norman. Beau (Year 6) placed 2nd in Division 4 – his first ever competition. Three Year 9 students, Cruz, Daniel, and Henry, played in Division 3, and placed 1st, 4th, and 6th respectively. Our Squash Captain, Johnny (Year 12) placed 3rd in Division 1.

This tournament saw a mix of high-level and intermediate squash and was an excellent event for exposing our boys to the wider competition – with other juniors ranging from the Clare Valley to Mount Barker, and down to Edwardstown. This was one of many tournaments our Squash players have played throughout the year – including others such as the Somerton Junior Squash Tournament, the South Australian Junior Open, and the Australian Junior Open.

These impressive results in a state-level competition highlight the talent and skill in our relatively small Squash program, and is promising for the years to come.
