On Sunday, the Exploration Society took a group of students to Garden Island for a kayaking day, exploring the mangroves and nearby shipwrecks. The boys loved spotting little crabs tucked into the trees and navigating through the tight waterways.
Throughout the day, they really improved their paddling technique. It was great to see them applying what they’d learned, especially when we were challenged in the narrower sections of the mangroves where control and communication mattered.
The wind picked up at times, but the smiles never dropped. What stood out most was the way boys from different year levels mixed so naturally, building friendships that don’t always form within the normal school routine. Alongside the fun, they showed strong leadership helping with gear, looking out for one another, and taking real ownership of the day. It was a great example of students stepping up and making the most of an opportunity outdoors.
