The Annual Languages Soccer Cup is always an entertaining competition. This year, for the first time we saw tense moments in a penalty shootout to determine the winner of the Senior Cup. Players gathered in the Sports Centre on Friday 30 August at the end of Week 6. More than 80 language students from Years 7 to 12 joined in the battle to secure a trophy.
Spectators watched on while the 10-minute matches didn’t disappoint. In the UN senior team, Michael Bi (Year 10) was very effective in goals and committed in the field and Will George (Year 10) showed off his fancy footwork. The atmosphere was energetic with students cheering on their teams. Stephen Lacroix-Sneyd and Nicholas Hill (Year 9) kicked winning goals for the French senior team. Josh Ng (Year 9), Tadgh Jackson(Year 10) and William Najjar (Year 9) scored for the Chinese senior team.
The Senior Cup was won by Germany after the penalty shootout against France, and the Junior Cup was also taken out by Germany. Congratulations to our winners!
Thank you to all participants, spectators and staff for joining us. Special mention and thanks must go to the referees, Languages staff, Mr Inman, Mr Papazoglou, Mr French and the PE department. Your support is always valued in running this event.
