On Wednesday 27 August (Week 6, Term 3), the Languages Department hosted the annual Languages Soccer Cup, bringing together students from Years 7 to 12 for an afternoon of skill, spirit and celebration.
The competition saw junior (Years 7 to 9) and senior (Years 9 to 12) teams proudly representing their languages: France in blue, China in red, Germany in white, and the UN in black, with the UN combining students from EAL, Classics and Curriculum Support.
With six-a-side, 10-minute matches, the games were fast paced and full of energy. Players competed with determination, showing off teamwork and flair, while referees ensured the matches were played in good spirit.
The junior draw was closely contested, but Germany proved dominant, winning all three of their matches to secure first place with nine points. China followed in second, with France and the UN rounding out the table.
The senior competition went right down to the wire. Germany and China finished equal on seven points each, with identical goal differences. The final standings were decided by penalties, where Germany once again emerged victorious, claiming their second trophy of the day.
Final Standings:
Junior Champions: Germany (3 wins, 0 losses)
Senior Champions: Germany (decided on penalties against China)
The Languages Soccer Cup once again highlighted the spirit of friendly competition and the joy of celebrating languages through sport. Congratulations to all teams for their effort and sportsmanship, and a special mention to Germany, crowned champions in both the junior and senior competitions.
