Do you have a spare hour each week?
Would you like to be part of our Learning Assistance Program (LAP) volunteer group who support boys with reading difficulties?
Every morning, between 8am and 9am, a team of dedicated volunteers provide valuable support to students in Years 3 and 4. They guide the boys through a program, Bridge the GAP, that is well regarded as an intervention to develop phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is one of the phonological skills critical for reading success.
All new volunteers will be provided with training, but the program is very user friendly. LAP is also about making connections with the students, so we encourage conversation and a relaxed atmosphere.
A current Working with Children Check is required for anyone volunteering in schools. This free online assessment can be completed here. Should you require any assistance with your application please contact Emma Costa via email or 8404 0436.
If you, or someone you know, would like to become a LAP volunteer, please contact Louise Day or Geraldine Waldron
