On Thursday evening, 26 February, the tenth day of the first lunar month, the International Students were thrilled to celebrate Lunar New Year together with the Boarding House community. It was a meaningful occasion for many of us, as Lunar New Year is an important festival in our culture and is usually a time spent with family.
Although we are away from home, being able to share this celebration with boarders, day students, staff and families gave us a strong sense of belonging. It was special to see so many members of the SPSC community come together in support and friendship. Students from both the International and Boarding communities helped prepare and contribute to different parts of the evening. Our MCs, Yu Chen Goh and Michael Bi, led the program with confidence. The evenings performances included a special flower dance, dragon dance, drumming, and a short drama sharing the story of “Nian.”
We also organised several cultural activity stalls, including calligraphy, paper cutting, Chinese name bookmarks, and traditional games. It was encouraging to see guests participating and learning more about the traditions behind the festival.
We would like to sincerely thank Mr Browning and Mr Nolan for attending the evening, and Mr Angus for warmly welcoming our International students and hosting the celebration at the Boarding House. We are also very thankful to the Boarding House staff, teachers, tutors and families who came along and encouraged us. A special thank you to the Chartwells team for preparing the dinner and helping create such a warm atmosphere.
We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate in a respectful and inclusive environment. It was a simple but meaningful evening that allowed us to share a small part of our culture with the wider SPSC community.
