On Wednesday 12 August, eleven teams of four students competed in this year’s MASA Quiz Night. It’s a fixture that’s been on the mathematics calendar for schools across the state for many years now. I fondly remember taking part myself in my own school days!
This year’s event was hosted by Adelaide Botanic High School, with our students competing against teams from Adelaide Botanic High School, Adelaide High School and University Senior College. More than 150 students packed the room on the night.
Four of our teams walked away with prizes:
Year 7/8
Overall Winners: Henry He, Lachlan Bell, Henry Wu, and Adrian Lee
Category Winners (Mathematics): Arjun Suri, Tobey Yu, Jake Lau, Nathan Wai
Year 9/10
Overall Winners: Andrei Chemutov, Jack Lai, Felix Siow, Tyler Gao
Category Winners (General Knowledge): Seb Romaldi, Jenson Lau, Arav Agarwal, Mahir Goyal
Beyond the competition itself, the evening is just as much about connection as it is about maths. Students shared snacks together and caught up with one another in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere surrounded by like-minded peers. Everyone had a fantastic time, and I’m looking forward to seeing even more of our students take part in 2027.
