For the first time in St Peter’s College Junior School tennis history, the top eight Primary A tennis boys from Years 5 and 6 travelled to Melbourne for three days of tennis, teamwork and learning. The boys experienced Melbourne Park, home of the Australian Open in an unforgettable way, including a personal tour of one of Melbourne’s most iconic sporting venues.

A highlight of the trip was training on the Australian Open practice courts, a dream come true for any young tennis player. The boys also visited The Tennis Lab, a world-leading facility using Hawk-Eye technology to analyse performance and provide personalised racquet and string-fitting advice, helping each player find their perfect racquet and be “fitted like a pro.”

Adding to the excitement, the group attended a live recording of Tipping Point Australia, hosted by tennis legend Todd Woodbridge. Watching the show being filmed offered a unique glimpse behind the scenes of television production. Afterwards, the boys enjoyed a Q&A and photo opportunity with Todd, one of the most successful doubles players of all time, with 16 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles. His insights, knowledge of the game and encouragement left a lasting impression on everyone.

There was plenty of laughter along the way especially during the hours spent together in the 12-seater minibus, where the group quickly became a true “tennis family.”

The team rounded out their Melbourne experience with friendly and competitive singles and doubles matches against Caulfield Grammar School and Maribyrnong College. In cold and windy conditions, St Peter’s College defeated Caulfield Grammar School: 8 sets, 55 games to 5 sets, 41 games. The following day we then had a convincing win against Maribyrnong College: 22 sets, 140 games to 2 sets 44 games. Well done to all boys for their sportsmanship and high level of tennis demonstrated the past few days.

A sincere thank you to everyone who supported this trip and helped make it such a great success.
