On Friday 22 August, six Year 10 EAL students visited the Migration Museum as part of their five-week study on Global Migration. Throughout the topic, the students have developed specialised vocabulary and explored case studies examining integration versus assimilation, as well as the experiences of refugees seeking asylum and building new lives in Australia.
The excursion brought their learning to life, allowing them to connect classroom knowledge with opportunitites to explore the identitites of South Australians through their personal stories and history. From the 1830s the museum site was used as a Native School Establishment, to a Destitute Asylum, and later as the Department of Chemistry.
The outing concluded with a relaxed lunch at the Art Gallery café across the road, making it both an educational and enjoyable experience.
