The St Peter’s Mission Guild community has generously supported AnglicareSA’s Turning Point program for several years. This program primarily assists women with children who are homeless due to domestic and family violence, providing access to safe, affordable housing and additional support services to help them rebuild their lives. Last year, the Turning Point program supported 25 adults and children.
Your support made a difference.
When families move into a Turning Point property, they receive a beautiful home starter pack that they get to keep. This includes household furnishings, whitegoods, sheets, cutlery, crockery, a toaster, kettle, vacuum cleaner, and all the essentials needed to create a safe and welcoming home.
This generosity would not be possible without the kindness and compassion of the St Peter’s Mission Guild community.

A Story We’d Like to Share
Recently a young mother and her two children (ages five and four) found themselves homeless after relocating from country SA to Adelaide to escape domestic violence.
She had endured domestic violence for five years and when she made the decision to flee, she initially stayed with a friend in Adelaide but soon had no further accommodation options.
Leaving her violent relationship meant walking away from her family home. Her abusive partner had controlled all finances and the impact of the abuse had severely limited her ability to work.
She managed to secure emergency motel accommodation in Adelaide for approximately four months.
During that time she applied for more than 100 private rental properties. With no rental history, no references and a very limited income, securing a property seemed almost impossible.
As the months passed, living in a motel room with two small children became increasingly difficult. Constant rejection left her feeling inadequate and hopeless.
Thankfully she was identified as a suitable candidate for AnglicareSA’s Turning Point programme and when a vacancy became available, she and her children moved into one of the properties.
On arrival she received a beautiful welcome pack including household furnishings, white goods, a home starter kit (sheets, cutlery, crockery, a toaster, kettle and more) and a children’s starter pack. These were hers to keep—items she could finally call her own.
Having never managed a tenancy on her own due to years of financial abuse, she felt nervous about the responsibilities ahead. With the support of her Case Manager she gained the skills needed to manage rent and utility payments, maintain the property and report any maintenance issues.
Her children thrived in their new environment, settled into their education programmes and finally had a place to call home.
Despite her efforts she continued to struggle to secure a private rental property.
Recognising how well she had managed her Turning Point home, her Tenancy Officer offered her a long-term Community Housing property in the same area.
With her Case Manager’s support, the family transitioned smoothly into their new home equipped with everything they needed to start fresh and build a stable future.
