Following the launch of Mission Inc. Coffee last year, we are pleased to share an update on this student-led service initiative. The coffee van has been created to raise funds for Mission Inc., with particular support for the School’s Buddy Up Respite Program, which provides care for families in our wider community.
Since the initiative was launched by last year’s School Captains, Aadi and Tiger, together with Mr de Lacy, the project has continued to progress. Thanks to the generosity of the St Peter’s Old Collegians, a second-hand caravan was purchased and is now being refurbished into a fully functioning coffee van.
Several important items have already been donated or committed, including under-bench fridges, sinks, toasty presses, a double-head commercial-grade coffee machine, and 5000 printed Mission Inc. Coffee cups. We have also secured the support of a coffee coach, who will help train student baristas and guide them through food handling certification.
The refurbishment is now entering an important stage. The van is about to be reframed, with planning beginning for the electrical wiring and internal fit-out. We are seeking support from anyone with electrical expertise who may be able to assist with planning or wiring the van. We are also looking for materials or support with bench tops and window framing, as service windows need to be created for the van to operate effectively.
The final major expense will be a generator, which will provide consistent power when the van operates at School events, Saturday sport, Open Mornings and other community occasions.
The next major step is student training. Students in Years 9 to 11 have been invited to express interest in completing a fully funded Barista Course through HG Coffee School. The course runs for 6.5 hours, from 9:00am to 3:30pm, with dates to be confirmed. Students who complete the course will assist with rostered shifts when the van is operating.

Although much has already been achieved, we are still seeking support to complete the refurbishment. Donations of funds, materials or professional expertise will help bring Mission Inc. Coffee to life. In particular, support with electrical work, bench tops, window framing, service window construction, or contributions towards the generator would be greatly appreciated.

We are very grateful for the generosity already shown by families, Old Scholars, staff and the wider School community. Once operational, Mission Inc. Coffee will not only serve coffee, but also provide students with a practical service-learning opportunity and create an ongoing source of support for Mission Inc. and Buddy Up.
