Last week, we celebrated National Boarding Week – a chance to recognise the unique role boarders play in the life of St Peter’s College. They bring with them not only great stories and spirit but a remarkable breadth of perspectives that enrich our whole community.

We recognise the many sacrifices they and their families have made to be part of life at SPSC and we are incredibly grateful for the vibrancy they contribute each day.

Here are just a few things we discovered or celebrated about our boarding community last week:

  • Beau (Year 9) comes from Clifton Hills Station, 1,000 kilometres from Adelaide. At 4.6 million acres, it’s 51,000 times the size of our School campus.
  • The two boarders with home addresses that are geographically the furthest apart are House Captain Henry (California, USA) and Rakitha (Year 10, Sri Lanka).
  • House Prefect Dom speaks three languages (English, Mandarin and Cantonese) and plays three instruments (drums, piano and guitar).
  • There is an eight-year age gap between our oldest boarder, Eric (Year 12), and youngest, Lachlan (Year 7).
  • Lochie (Year 11) represented SA at the U16 National Hockey Championships in 2024 and has been selected in the U18 State Team for 2025.
  • Head of House Rob Green has cared for more than 800 boarders during his time at SPSC, including four of five Reimann brothers.
  • Ruben (Year 9) outlasted the bucking mechanical bull – it broke down before he gave in!
  • Our boarders come from eight countries and four Australian states and territories.
  • Nine languages are spoken in the Boarding House: English, Mandarin, Cantonese, German, Sinhalese, Arabic, Punjabi, Western Arrernte and Afrikaans.
  • Seven different buildings have served as boarding houses since 1853: Pentreath, Old School House, Athelney, Allen, Hill Wing, Shinkfield and the current Boarding House.

To our wonderful boarding parents – thank you for trusting us to educate, support and care for your sons. Despite the distance many of you live from Adelaide, you remain a vital part of our School community, and your commitment not only provides your sons with remarkable opportunities but also enriches the life of our School in countless ways.

Finally, thank you to our dedicated boarding staff who provide our students with a true home away from home. You create a sense of belonging, encourage authenticity and help our boarders embrace every opportunity that comes their way.
