Two strong and lovely students, Sam Wells and Abraham Tembel proudly represented SPSC and South Australia at the prestigious National Cross Country Championships, held at the Runaway Bay Sports Precinct on the Gold Coast from September 7-10. This national-level event was far more than just a race – it was a transformative experience.
Both boys embraced the thrill of competition while building friendships and camaraderie with fellow athletes from across the country. Abraham said, ‘It was a wonderful opportunity to participate in a national sporting event and build friendships from across Australia”.
Their journey reflects the true spirit of sport: connection, growth and resilience. The competition unfolded on a challenging grass course, featuring sharp turns and short, steep hills. Combined with hot and humid conditions, the environment demanded focus, endurance, and adaptability. Despite these obstacles, our athletes rose to the occasion with determination and grace.
In the individual 10-year-old boys’ 2km race, Abraham delivered a strong performance, finishing 23rd out of 36 competitors. Meanwhile, in the individual 12-year-old boys’ 3km race, Sam ran with grit and composure, placing 25th out of 35 runners. The boys’ outstanding results speaks volumes about their ability to compete at the highest level. The excitement continued the following day with the team relay event, where each athlete completed a 1.5km lap. Both South Australian boys’ teams finished a close 4th out of six teams, showcasing impressive consistency and teamwork.
We celebrate these students not only for their athletic achievements but also for the way they represented SPSC—with pride, sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Their journey from Girdlestone Oval to Oakbank to the Gold Coast is a testament to their dedication and the unwavering support of our School community.
To all our Cross Country participants: thank you for inspiring us with your truth and service. And to our national representatives – congratulations on this incredible strong and lovely milestone. You’ve made SPSC proud.
