Who would have thought the Torrens Boatshed could rival the Entertainment Centre and the Adelaide Oval? On Saturday 3 August it did just that. Sandwiched between the Thunderbirds netball and Adelaide Crows footy, the SPSC Torrens Boatshed was buzzing for the Olympic rowing finals.

The Rowing Parents’ Committee and Blackmore Club came together to host and support old scholar Angus Dawson (S&A 2018) in his Olympic final. Just under 150 boys, parents, old scholars and Council members gathered to share the atmosphere, big screen and cheer on the crews in green and gold. It was a tremendous celebration of the St Peter’s College rowing community. Our resident Olympian Mr James McRae shared his Olympic experiences and medals. We had Sir Collier Cudmore’s gold medal from the archives and family present. We had Angus Dawson’s grandparents along with an inflatable kangaroo. Coaches provided tug of war and pizza to keep boys occupied.

But we also had disappointment. The whole room groaned as Tara Rigney was pipped to a medal. We had longer to prepare for Angus’ result but the sympathy for his efforts was no less. The emotions were raw.

Despite the results the evening was an inspiration and a great example of what we can achieve when the community pulls together
