In Week 6, our Year 9 students participated in an engaging session with Jana Gomes from the Legal Services Commission, exploring their rights and responsibilities in the online space.
Jana highlighted the importance of understanding that online actions have real-world consequences, covering key topics such as cyberbullying, doxxing and deepfakes. Students learned that intent does not remove responsibility and that harmful online behaviour can have serious legal implications.
A strong focus of the session was on seeking help and reporting concerns, with students encouraged to speak up if they encounter harmful content online. Importantly, they were reassured that reporting something they come across will not get them into trouble.
The session reinforced the importance of being safe, responsible and respectful digital citizens.
