Australian Drama: Page To Stage
Over the past three weeks, Years 10 and 11 Drama students have had the great fortune to study with Tony Knight in workshops on the evolution of Australian theatre, exploring classic Australian plays such as Ruby Moon by Matt Cameron and Norm and Ahmed by Alex Buzo.
As Head of Acting at NIDA for twenty-five years, before travelling to Japan and Singapore to direct international university courses in Drama and Musical Theatre, Tony’s wealth of experience has inspired our students. Among his myriad achievements, Tony has also presented for the National Portrait Gallery, the National Film and Sound Archive and SALA.
Throughout the first half of Term 1 our Drama students have worked together to become a confident ensemble, improvising and devising drama as well as learning different approaches to acting. These workshops have undoubtedly boosted their confidence as we begin another busy year. We are delighted to have hosted Tony and we look forward to a fruitful working relationship with him in 2025.
Class Clowns: Jordan Barr Inspires Students
Melbourne International Comedy artist Jordan Barr brought laughter and insight to our Year 9, 10, and 11 Drama students in a dynamic workshop earlier this term. Sharing real-world experiences as a comedy writer and performer, Jordan highlighted how comedy can open doors to exciting career opportunities. Students left feeling inspired and confident, and we thank Jordan for sharing her talents!
Year 10 Student Brings Greek Theatre to Life with 3D Printing
Harrison (Year 10) used his impressive 3D printing skills to create fantastic Greek chorus masks for our Drama unit. Inspired by ancient theatre, his designs showcase both creativity and craftsmanship. Harrison’s work brings classical drama into the modern age. Also an entrepreneur, Harrison has his own small business, Kallos 3D Prints, creating a range of useful and artistic works. Congratulations Harrison, on this fantastic initiative!
