In 2021 St Peter’s College collaborated with Flinders’ University to develop a 7-week unit for Health and Physical Education based on the local Kaurna indigenous game of Parndo.

The vision for the unit was for the boys to learn about indigenous ways of knowing through the lens of sport and physical activity. As a Health and Physical Education department we incorporated the ‘eight ways of knowing’ pedagogies when teaching about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, with boys developing an understanding of non-linear learning styles, story sharing, land links, deconstruct/reconstruct and symbols and image amongst others.

This cultural overlap between Aboriginal and non-aboriginal cultures was found between approaches to games and using innovative teaching strategies to demonstrate the link between Parndo and other non-aboriginal games.

The ABC Behind the News program filmed our students and staff playing and speaking about the positive learning experience of the unit in Term 1 this year.
