Poetry is all around us. Our first exposure to picture books introduces us to poetic metre and rhyming couplets. Yet, this exposure is not always prevalent through our experience with the English language, despite its benefits.
Poetry is therapy,
For the reader, for the writer, for the soul,
Poetry helps us to reflect
and understand one and all.
Our poets perfectly performed through internal competitions to be selected as the rhapsodic rhymist of their year group. These students were then given the opportunity to shine on the State’s stage at the IPSHA Poetry Competition.
This competition required them to memorise and perform a set poem, as well as their own choice of poem. Through their choice of tone, tempo and mannerisms, they delivered a deep understanding of the poetic meaning and metre.
Congratulations to the following students on their outstanding achievements:
Maximillan Martin-Begg, finalist (Year 4)
Aarit Kothari, finalist (Year 5)
Jamie Wong, 2nd Place Winner (Year 6)
