At the end of Term 2, inspired by the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway—a secure backup facility for the world’s crop diversity—the students of 6B decided to preserve their own memories of Year 6. The class embarked on an exciting project: creating a time capsule to be buried in the Junior School grounds.

Each student wrote a heartfelt postcard to their future self, to be reopened when they return as Year 12 students. These postcards, filled with hopes, dreams, and reflections, were carefully placed in the time capsule alongside treasured items that represented their Year 6 experience. Among these items were a fidget toy, a tech deck, a whiteboard marker, a Premier’s Reading Challenge medal, class photographs, Teachable cards, a student diary, and seeds from the Year 6 Garden Project.

Mrs Bailey’s prized Robert Lewandowski soccer card found a special place in the capsule, symbolizing her passion for soccer and connection with the students. Mrs Taylor, not wanting to miss out on the fun, contributed her very own postcard describing what life was like as the Head of the Junior School in 2024, capturing the trends and quirks of the time (including a humorous nod to Crocs).

Special thanks to Mr Jason Hall for selecting a suitable site for the time capsule burial. The students eagerly anticipate returning to this spot in 2030 to rediscover their memories and see how much they’ve grown.

This project not only fostered a sense of community and nostalgia but also taught students the value of preserving memories and looking forward to the future. The 6B time capsule will be a cherished treasure, eagerly awaited by all to be unearthed in 2030.
