In the lead up to Christmas, several students volunteered their time, to support the Puddle Jumpers Christmas Party. Our boys were joined by student leaders from St Peter’s Girls’ School in a range of activities such as setting up the day, wrapping presents, running photo booths, serving food, setting up and packing down, but most of all, engaging with the young guests and ensuring that they had a great day.
Puddle Jumpers is an organisation that is supported by MacDermott House, serving a community of some of South Australia’s most vulnerable young people in supporting their social and emotional health and wellbeing. The Christmas Party provided a wonderful opportunity for our boys to interact with and serve the Puddle Jumpers community, whilst developing a deeper understanding of the challenges that people of their own age are going through, where home for these children was either in State care or the Foster Care system and in most cases having come from a traumatic background.
As Cruz described in his reflection, “this service activity showed me the vulnerability of these young people, and how they rely on volunteers and family to support them through life. Planning and taking action underpin what service is all about.”
