On the last Wednesday of Term 2, the Reception to Year 2 Bastille Day morning tea was held.

The air was crisp, yet the sun was shining as the boys marched down The Avenue towards Da Costa Dining Hall. The students all looked splendid dressed in blue, white and red and enthusiastically waved French flags whilst singing Frère Jacques. The students “stormed” the dining hall to be greeted by the smell of fresh, warm croissants and the hall decorated in the colours of the French flag.

Special musical performances and presentations preceded our morning tea. Mr Sam Howes and the Year 2 strings group accompanied our round rendition of Frère Jacques and Tao Wong (Year 2) gave a special violin performance of Sur le Pont d’Avignon and Alouette.

Mr Tim Browning, presented a certificate to the each of the French Show and Tell winners from Reception to Year 2 and we were privileged to have Mrs Hine present the Year 2 Pétanque Cup for 2018 to Year 2 students Jenson Lau, Zane Haseldine and Charles Paull. Mr David Hine was also there to announce and congratulate all the winners.

Congratulations to all of the French students from Reception to Year 2 for showing so much interest in the French language and culture. Our Bastille Day morning tea was a wonderful way of celebrating our French program. Thank you to everyone who made the day such a success and for their enthusiasm throughout the year.

Central Market Bastille Day Celebrations

Additionally, representatives from St Peter’s College were invited to be part of the Bastille Day celebrations at the Adelaide Central Markets this year. Tao Wong (Year 2) was invited to open the proceedings on Saturday 14 July with a performance of The Two Grenadiers by Robert Schumann to a very enthusiastic crowd.

To coincide with the Art Gallery of South Australia’s exhibition Colours of Impressionism, an art competition was held during Term 2. Edward Tonkin (Year 1) and Thomas Wallett (Year 1) were chosen as finalists and were also invited to the Central Markets Bastille Day celebrations. Their artworks were on display at the market during the school holidays.

Congratulations to Tao Wong (Year 2), Edward Tonkin (Year 1) and Thomas Wallett (Year 1) for representing Saints so well.
