What an extraordinary achievement! On Monday 24 August, 76 St Peters students from Years 4 to 9 competed in the State RoboCup Competition, joining over 500 competitors from 15 schools across five divisions. St Peters entered an impressive 35 teams: 15 in Riley Rover Rescue Line, 11 in Primary Rescue Line, 8 in Secondary Rescue Line, 1 in Open Rescue Line, and 6 SEA program teams in the Sumo competition.
Each year we wonder whether it’s possible to surpass our previous results — and each year, our students find a way.
This year was no exception, with results across every division:
- 1st place in both Riley Rover and the highly demanding Open division
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Primary division, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Secondary division
- 1st and 3rd place in Standard Sumo and 3rd place in Featherweight Sumo
- 6 of our Riley Rover teams finishing in the top 10
- All 15 Primary teams finishing in the top 15
- 8 of our 10 Secondary teams finishing in the top 8
Results like these don’t happen by accident. They’re the product of months of iteration — testing, refining, and testing again — and they reflect the same qualities that will carry our teams forward: curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to get it wrong on the way to getting it right.
Our teams are already back at it, fine-tuning code and refining robot construction ahead of the National Competition in Canberra this October. With a result like this behind them, St Peters is well placed to make a real impact on the national stage. Congratulations to every one of our 76 participants — your dedication, innovation and teamwork have made the whole school community proud. And a special thank you to the Senior School students who volunteered as judges on the day; none of this runs without you.
