24 September 2026
On Friday 11 September, students from across South Australia gathered at Seymour College for the 28th South Australian Chinese Language Awards Ceremony, celebrating achievement and excellence in Chinese language learning. The ceremony recognised students through three major awards and competitions: the 28th South Australian Chinese Outstanding Student Awards, the 9th South Australian Chinese Language Video Competition, and the 4th South Australian OZChin Quiz Bowl.
These events provide a valuable opportunity to recognise students’ dedication and achievements in Chinese and to celebrate the diverse pathways through which students engage with the language. With the awards recognising Second Language, Background Language and First Language learners, the ceremony highlights the important place of Chinese language learning in South Australia’s diverse and multicultural education community. It is also a meaningful occasion for students to have their efforts recognised beyond the classroom, build confidence in their language abilities and share their achievements with their families, teachers and peers.
Although the ceremony coincided with our school’s Cabaret Concert, three of our students were able to attend in person to represent our School and celebrate these achievements with the wider Chinese language community. We would also like to thank Dr Garcia, Head of Languages, for attending the ceremony and showing such wonderful support for our students and the Chinese language program.
We were particularly proud to see our students recognised at this year’s ceremony:
- Kaiqi (David) Chen (Year 11 S&A) – South Australian Chinese Outstanding Student Award (First Language Learners of Chinese)
- Xinlun (Lucas) Wei (Year 8 FRR) – South Australian Chinese Outstanding Student Award (Chinese Background Language Learner)
- Lutanda McLeod (Year 11 DAC) – South Australian Chinese Outstanding Student Award (Chinese Second Language Learner)
- Zheshuo (Poli) Guo (Year 8 HWD) – First Place, South Australian OZChin Quiz Bowl (Background Language Middle Years)
- Ben Xu (Year 11 FRR) – Second Place, South Australian OZChin Quiz Bowl (Background Language Senior Years)
- Yu Ching (Jacob) Chau (Year 8 FLL), Yuxuan (Mark) Lian (Year 8 SHT) and Xinlun (Lucas Wei) (Year 8 FRR) – Third Place, South Australian Chinese Language Video Competition (Year 7 to Year 9 Background), for their video “Friendship”

“Friendship” and “Look Up, Please” provided students with opportunities to use Chinese creatively while developing their skills in communication, collaboration, storytelling and digital media.
Congratulations to all of our students on these wonderful achievements. Their success is a testament to their commitment to Chinese language learning and a wonderful reflection of the enthusiasm, creativity and talent within our Chinese language community.
