Our boys opened the Metros regatta at Goolwa Yacht Club this week. With only two training sessions under their belts this season, they arrived with limited time on the water, but plenty of character and positive attitude. Conditions were superb: a steady breeze, open water, and just enough texture on the surface to reward good decisions.

The racing was competitive, yet the team approached each race with calm focus and a willingness to learn quickly. What stood out most was not a single result, but the way the boys responded when things didn’t go perfectly. There were moments that demanded quick thinking and even quicker teamwork, and they met them with resilience, determination and genuine support for one another.

A particular highlight was seeing boys skipper for the first time in competition. Taking the helm under pressure requires confidence, communication and courage. Both stepped up impressively, listening well, making decisive calls, and growing visibly with every race. Their progress across the day was a reminder that school sport, at its best, is about development as much as it is about outcomes.

As we look ahead to Day Two, there is a real sense of momentum. The boys have earned their place on the start line, and we are excited to see what they can build from a strong first day in Goolwa. Thank you to Westminster who provided the sails for the day.
