As always, the Science Department is at full speed with the many exciting activities and events that have occurred over the past few weeks. Last week we rented a Scanning Electron Microscope from Hitachi, which allowed classes the opportunity to discover a microscopic world and generate some fantastic images. The image below shows why we all have hay fever. This is the start of a partnership between St. Peter’s College and Inspire Stem Education, and we hope to see students in Years 11 and 12 using this to help their internal assessments as well as any interesting projects students wish to follow for their own interest.
Also last week we had a selection of students complete the Physics Olympiads and we look forward to seeing their results soon. Finally, in Week 2 of Term 4 all students in Years 7 to 10 will sit the ICAS Science competition. This is an international competition and allows us to track the progress of all the students throughout their time in Science. Students can practise the types of questions they will experience here, or by searching ICAS on Keystone. Being prepared for the online version of the assessment would be useful for students before the assessment on the 20 October.
