At the start of Term 3, the Senior School Art Department was fortunate to have Tsering Hannaford work with our boys during this year’s Artist in Residence Program.

Tsering is a highly acclaimed artist who has been an Archibald Portrait Prize finalist for the past four years. Her skills as a portrait artist captured the imagination of our Years 9-10 students and as a result, they enthusiastically absorbed Tsering’s teachings. The boys were taught specific charcoal rendering techniques as they worked with mirrors and a directional light source to draw self-portraits. The results are truly exceptional and will be displayed during our Years 7-facebook12 Art Exhibition on Tuesday November 20.

An exciting aspect of the Artist in Residence program is always the group project that is produced during lunchtimes. Boys from all year levels were invited to participate, and over a three week period they collaborated with Tsering to create a large atmospheric charcoal drawing of Old School House. The drawing clearly demonstrates the boys artistic skills and their ability to work together to produce an inspirational result.

Tsering Hannaford was our Artist in Residence for 2018, with this successful program spanning 20 years.
