On Sunday morning our 1st XI Soccer Team travelled to Melbourne to play the annual John Roe Shield match against Scotch College Melbourne. This game has been played since 1979 and St Peter’s College had won the past two games. The team watched the A League game between Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory on Sunday evening before getting prepared for their game the following day.

With a big crowd of students cheering on Scotch, they scored early to make it 1 – 0. Saints quickly responded with a goal from Henry Filsell to make it an even 1 – 1. We then scored two more goals before half-time thanks to Jack Foster and Orlando Sagrillo-Yeaman.

At half time, coach Paul Vanis reiterated the importance of keeping the same standards and sticking to the game plan. The second half saw Saints take full control of the match, attacking the Scotch goal at will. We scored four more goals from Connor Murphy, Orlando Sagrillo-Yeaman, Henry Filsell and Harry Lienhart and took victory with a 7 – 1 win.

Congratulations to the whole team and coach for what was the largest winning margin in the 42 year history of the game!
