St Peter’s College will again be hosting the Sony Children’s Holiday Camp. It will be held on the first weekend of the Term 3 holidays (Saturday 1 October to Tuesday 4 October 2022). For three days and two nights, a group of our Year 11 students, paired with students from Wilderness School, will be responsible for the care of fifteen children living with a disability. In addition, we will have a small team of students as a support crew helping with the activities, cleaning and assisting during the camp.

The School had a record number of applicants this year for the 15 companion and 6 crew places available, which demonstrates both maturity and generosity of spirit in this cohort. The selection process was thorough with consideration of written applications, interviews (where possible) and feedback from Heads of House. These positions have now been allocated.

To prepare for the camp, the Year 11 companions and crew will be involved in training this Term to learn how to care for their guest. The camp itself will have a range of activities including swimming, a disco, cooking and art activities. We also plan to have a visit from the emergency services for our guests to look through their vehicles and speak to officers. On the final Tuesday of the camp a mini fair will be held with a petting zoo, mini golf, face painting and other special activities.

The Mission Guild, along with our students, will also be creating gift hampers for the parents and siblings of our guests.

Events like this truly bring out the best in a community. Last year was a genuinely remarkable experience for all involved. Our students will again immerse themselves in the realities and complexities of life while putting the needs of another first to provide a memorable experience for these wonderful young people and provide families with some valuable respite.
