Recently, a group of Spanish students in Year 10 attended the Spanish Quiz Night at St Peter’s Girls’ School. The group consisted of Abhay Saini, Henry Burton, Seb Gilbert, Tom Baker-Evans, Sam Giglio, Charlie Paull, Augustin Nicholson and me, Ethan Taylor. The night was based around Spanish-speaking countries and included a range of questions about music, sport, food, culture and geography. The event had an interactive experience, a great atmosphere throughout the whole night, and was a great way to learn more about different cultures outside of the classroom.
One of the highlights of the night was participating in the Spanish tongue twister competition. It was challenging but also really entertaining, especially hearing everyone’s attempts at the difficult pronunciation. Another memorable part was the breaks in between the rounds of questioning, as all the groups would participate in activities such as Just Dance or singing along to Spanish music.
There was also plenty of food available during the night, which made the experience even better. Overall, the excursion was both enjoyable and educational. It gave us the chance to work together, meet students from another school, and experience Spanish culture in a fun and interactive way. The whole night was memorable and is something our group will hopefully remember for a while.

Year 10 Spanish student
Last week, I had the privilege of being able to join the Year 10 Spanish class on an excursion to St Peter’s Girls’ School, for a Spanish Quiz Night.
For context, growing up in Northern California, learning and speaking Spanish was a key part of my childhood. My ELC teachers used to really only speak to us in Spanish, and throughout my junior and middle school years we would study it in class. However, when I moved to Australia five years ago, the lack of Latin/Spanish culture and speaking was quite a shock.
I’m grateful for events like this quiz night to not only to help me retain my own Spanish speaking ability, but to expose our boys to the vast range of cultures across the world.
The event consisted of various activities along with the quiz, such as a Spanish tongue twister competition, dancing, and singing.
These opportunities help bring us together as a community, so thank you to Dr Garcia for all your work in coordinating the event.
