At SPSC, we seek students in the Junior School who aspire to leadership roles as captains of specialty areas such as Sport, Music, Languages, Robotics, Library, Art and Drama and who consistently demonstrate our core values of truth, respect and service in their daily actions.

These students show integrity, act with honesty, and take responsibility for their choices, while treating others with kindness, inclusivity and respect. We look for boys who have developed strong character strengths, such as perseverance, teamwork, initiative and empathy and who use these qualities to positively influence and support their peers.

Effective student leaders are those who lead by example, contribute enthusiastically to their chosen speciality area and show a genuine commitment to serving the School community.

This week’s spotlight is on Vinh Luong our Arts Captain.

Why did you apply for this position?
I applied for this position because I want to help others improve and achieve their best in Art. I am very passionate about Art and I love helping others.

Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
Since I could paint, I have painted over 200 artworks on canvas including ‘Stary Night’ painting shown in the art room. I have used many, many paints at home and have piles of empty paint bottles lying in boxes.

What is one thing you would like to achieve in your role as art leader?
As Art Captain I would like to help each student reach for their goals. I welcome all students to give me their new ideas of how we can improve Art at SPSC and I encourage them to do what they like doing best. I also encourage each student to come to Art Club more often and learn something new!

Anything extra you would like to add?
My favourite painting is ‘Stary Night’ By Vincent Van Goh. When I was little, I went to an art gallery, and it was Vincent Van Goh’s artwork that inspired me to improve in art. I remember saying to my parents ‘I want to paint like Vincent!’.
