On Wednesday 31 March St Peter’s College competed in the SSSSA A Grade Athletics Championships at the South Australian Athletics Stadium. The competition runs in a similar format to The Achilles Cup but is a much harder event to win, as schools can only field one student per event and can only compete in a limited selection of events. In the five weeks leading up to the event a team comprising of the best athletes at St Peter’s College was assembled and invited to specialised trainings.

Of the 67 places on the event list, 31 were inevitably filled by reserves (12 of them on the day of the event). The boys gave their all on the day achieving outstanding results of 11 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze medals. Ultimately the team came third to Trinity College (1st) and Mercedes College (2nd). To still make the podium in such an unforgiving competition is truly a testament to the grit, courage and dedication of our students and the tireless efforts of our coaching team. Josh Rai, Lachlan Kamencak, Remen Oyugbo, Oso Oyugubo, Ilesh Shrestha, Rory, Blackburn, Meshach Begg, Arthur Drayton, Seb Bower and Jonathan Harris are highlighted as the “heroes of the day” as they substituted for an event at the very last minute with minimal preparation. All of the students that competed on the day should be commended for their amazing efforts.
