During Week 5, the Year 4 students enjoyed a memorable excursion to St Peters Billabong. Guided by the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters Council, the boys planted a variety of native species to help strengthen the health of this important local ecosystem.
In Science, students have been learning about the vital role plants play in supporting ecosystems, from providing habitats for animals to preventing soil erosion. The excursion allowed students to put this knowledge into action and see first-hand how their contribution could make a positive difference to the environment. We value the gifts of our community passed down by those before us, and we embrace our responsibility to respect and enhance them so that they are left in a better condition for those who come after us.
This experience also linked directly to one of our School’s core values: Service. At St Peter’s College, Service is grounded in a willingness to give of ourselves for the good of others. By caring for the Billabong, students not only deepened their understanding of ecological sustainability but also lived out this value in a practical and meaningful way. The excursion fostered teamwork, respect for nature, and an appreciation for the importance of giving back to the community. The boys returned with both muddy hands and a strong sense of pride in the difference they had made.
Thank you to the Council and the parent volunteers who supported and joined us for this memorable event. We look forward to continuing to foster these partnerships with our broader community, giving back through Service Learning and embracing Adelaide as our second classroom.
