State Track and Field Championships

Over the three days and two weekends of State Championship competition, 30 St Peter’s College Track and Field athletes competed in a total of 72 events. They were joined by another 78 Saints Club athletes competing in age groups from Under 14 to Open Age. Inclusive of Veteran and Para categories, more than 563 athletes representing various clubs competed.

The weekend had it all. Present day students were treated with many amazing performances by fellow students and old scholars, some being present members of our coaching team (Adam Goddard, Zac Connell and Fox Obst). SPSC students achieved 31 podium finishes; 10 Gold, 11 Silver and 10 Bronze medals along with numerous Athletics Australia National Entry Standards, Finals Qualifiers and Personal Bests. A significant number of our athletes were competing in their first ever State Championships.

I’ll take this opportunity to thank all members of our coaching team for sharing their time and expertise with our athletes leading into this competition. It is appreciated that such a commitment requires a great deal of energy and time away from families.

Training sessions continue through to the end of Term 1. We can look forward to preparing for the following competitions:

• Secondary School Sport South Aust. Championships (SSSSA), Term 1, Week 11
• Athletics Australia Nationals to be held in Perth commencing Term 1 Week 10
• Athletics SA Schools Challenge Term 2, Week 2
